How to Use Layouts

A new layout is automatically created when you first install the app. A layout is specific to a single table. You can have multiple layouts per table.

Input a name for your layout, then click Create

You can then add View Types.

Sync or Unsync from Airtable Location

This allows you to switch to a new table in your base without having to exit the Amplify dashboard to switch.

Sync with Airtable Location - Switch directly to the table in your Airtable base

(Exits Amplify from full screen)

Unsync from Airtable Location - Stay in the current table but view Amplify layouts from different tables

(Amplify stays open in fullscreen and doesn't close)

You can choose between switching to another table when you switch in the dashboard or you can stay in one table.

Lock A Layout

You can lock any viewer layout. In a locked layout, you will not be able to edit any View Types or settings in View Types, add or delete View Types, change View Type column names, or rearrange the columns in the layout.

While this feature will lock your Amplify layout options, the fields that are editable are dependent on the user permissions in Airtable. If you have Owner/Creator or Editor permissions, you can still edit the data in record fields in the Current Record Editor and in the Linked Record Editor. You can also still add new records to your table, expand a record, search records, navigate through records, add new layouts, and navigate to another layout.

However, you CAN completely lock a layout by making each field a Read-Only field. See the Columns/View Types article for how to enable Read-Only for a field.

To lock a layout:

Click the name of the current layout in the app navigation menu
Select Lock Layout

To unlock a layout:

Click the name of the current layout in the app navigation menu
Select Unlock Layout

Manage Layout

Reorder Columns

To reorder the columns in your Layout:

Click the name of your current layout in the app navigation menu
Select Manage Layout
Reorder columns by dragging and dropping each column as needed
Click Save

Switch Views

You can switch between views in your base from your Amplify layout.

To switch between views:

Click the name of the current view in the app navigation menu
Select Switch View
Choose another view in your table

Navigate Between Records

To browse to the previous or next record:

Click the previous and next arrows in the layout navigation

Search and Switch to a New Record

You can start typing in any data you want to find. Every field and every value in the field will be searched automatically.
